The long version.

It started in 2007 with a twelve-year-old and a file sharing tool. Everything since has been the same work at a larger scale.

  1. [I]2007–2014

    The studio

    Olokoo started in 2007 as a web studio, run by a twelve-year-old who had been building hardware. Hardware had no undo. A broken part stayed broken, and replacing it cost money he did not have. Software had Ctrl+Z, so software won. Vsave.org started the same year: file sharing and transfer, built before most people had heard of Dropbox. The client work was whatever New Jersey needed built — storefronts, custom sites, internal tools.

  2. [II]2015–2022

    Everything at once

    Startups came for proof of concepts: an idea, a short runway, and something that had to work well enough to show. Olokoo built its own apps in the same years, and Q2M, the server-rendered React stack behind the client work. Observer Ventures built custom drones and flew them commercially, surveying infrastructure for utilities. Olokoo moved to Colorado in 2020 and kept building.

  3. [III]2023–Today

    Holdings

    Olokoo stopped being a studio. The work moved into companies of its own, and the software split by who it was for: applied machine learning for enterprises, monitoring and data tooling for the teams who keep software running, and apps for everyone else. One shop selling websites became several building different things at once. The register is where that stands now.

Fondly remembered

A consignment shop, a school district, an iced tea distributor. The range was the best part of the job.
